I always enjoy painting subjects that have deep meaning. This would be an example – this composition from Sandycove/forty-foot bathing area is no different. The views are really spectacular from this side of Sandycove, especially on a fine day. This particular day was an example of what I mean…the sun out, the long cast shadows, and a crisp day with fine edges, that all add up to a painting that you’re looking for. Watercolour can make or break a painting – I’m relatively happy with this outcome. The graduated sky and church spires, maybe the foreground with the gulls perched on the seafront rocks pulling you into the painting to look for more…that’s my aim.
