After the Rain is a watercolour I have been wanting to do for a while. I love this scenery. It’s a rural setting, but what sets it apart from other works is the elements and composition of the old bridge: Shea Bridge, or Shee Bridge and its surrounds. Hints the old and the new collide, for instance – the modern ‘stop’ and ‘heritage’ signs. Then the old stone bridge is guiding you along it along the right bank into the water. here the reflections bring everything together.
Greens or colour play a big part in this watercolour. Our country is probably 80% landscape and green fields. Slowly we’re losing all this to modern man’s demise of the old Ireland, hence big modern structures that are evolving and taking these places bit by bit.
In this painting, my main area of interest is the bridge, with all the various trees and colourful foliage. Allenwood, Co. Kildare is the location. Here you can see my sketch for this painting: ‘After the Rain’
