Cabinteely Park in Sunshine

I did this watercolour sketch recently at the park. The day was spectacular and very bright. I can’t paint in extreme bright conditions as the paper is like a mirror reflecting back into your eyes! So i did a pre-preliminary tonal sketch. What attracted me to this subject was the silhouetted figures by the bridge. I loved the hard shapes against the light coloured trees/shrubs. The two figures talking center left brings in some feeling and vitality to the composition. It’s what i would call a ‘summer happy painting’. Kids and their Dad’s taking them out to the play areas, full of the joys of summer. Maybe trying to meet new and old friends – as lock-down has so many in the dumps!
