This is a recent painting of a fishing vessel. I was adamant to get this as right as possible. I am happy with the out come. I get immersed in painting boats and all marine life. This boat was just ‘alone’ in dock. I had to paint it! I took photos from every angle to get the right perspective. I did some small drawings and tonal studies first. Vessels are awkward to draw and you need to have some understanding/love of boats i really feel. Also boats must be ‘grounded’ in the water. They can sway and bobble with the water’s surface. On this painting the surface is still, so the vessel is at a right angle.
